Independence Ghost Town near Aspen Colorado10.tif
Ruins of the ghost town of Independence, Colorado, high atop Independence Pass at an elevation of 10,830 feet. The town was founded July 4, 1879 after gold was discovered in the area. It became a ghost town in the late 1800s when trains came into Aspen and the gold played out.
