About Randall K. Roberts
Randall K. Roberts was first drawn to the outdoors after moving to New Mexico in the mid-1980s. Over the years, the luminous blue skies and sweeping landscapes of the West lured him into the wilderness time and again until his nature photography collection grew to more than 60,000 images.
Roberts began his career as a newspaper photographer, and worked for large daily newspapers in Baltimore, Dallas and San Antonio. After ten years as a newspaper photo editor and designer in New Mexico, Roberts joined the Rocky Mountain News in Denver as Design Director in 1998. In 2003, he was part of a team of photographers and editors awarded the Pulitzer Prize for Breaking News Photography for the paper's coverage of forest fires in Colorado. After the Rocky closed in early 2009, Roberts turned his attention full-time to his photography business and began offering his images to the public at art shows and in galleries.
"My goal is to capture moments in the outdoors that speak to the heart and renew our respect for wild places," Roberts says. In addition to landscapes and nature, he enjoys photographing places that are a link to our cultural past. Whether it's a pioneer cabin, a crumbling farmhouse or an ancient Native American cliff dwelling, Roberts believes that these places share a fragile beauty and remind us that our past can disappear in an instant if we don't preserve it.
Roberts' nature photos have been published in regional and national magazines including National Geographic Traveler, U.S. News & World Report, New Mexico Magazine, Popular Science, and Albuquerque Monthly; and in books and calendars by National Geographic Books, Falcon Press, Rio Nueva Press, Sierra Press, Landmark, Sierra Club and others.
His wildlife images have received awards from the North American Nature Photographers Association and the National Wildlife Refuge Association.
Roberts' fine-art nature photographs are available to the public in a variety of forms: wood-mounted, matted prints, or as photo greeting cards. Pictures can be purchased at art shows across the West or through this website. Image rights are also available for purchase for advertising or commercial use through this site.
